Let&#8217;s decode your&nbsp;<strong>tax liabilities<\/strong>&nbsp;in India and abroad and how&nbsp;<strong>Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAA)<\/strong>&nbsp;can protect your earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tax Liabilities in India for NRIs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re a&nbsp;<strong>Non-Resident Indian (NRI)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Only Indian-sourced income is taxed in India<\/strong>. This includes salary received in India, rental income, capital gains from Indian investments, and dividends.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Foreign income is not taxed<\/strong>&nbsp;in India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use ITR-2<\/strong>, not ITR-1. Link PAN with Aadhaar and verify bank details on the IT portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Form 67<\/strong>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<strong>Tax Residency Certificate (TRC)<\/strong>&nbsp;are needed to claim foreign tax credits under DTAA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NRE\/FCNR interest<\/strong>\u00a0is exempt, but must still be reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dividend income from Indian companies<\/strong>\u00a0is taxed at 20% (Section 115A).
